ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONS

Depending on design, polyurethane foams are suitable for acoustic insulation and sound absorption. Task-specific solutions can be found based on the right formula. Hardly any other plastic has such a diverse range of properties and applications as the product group of polyurethanes. Major factors influencing the acoustic properties of the foam are:

  • the combination of the raw materials in the formulas and their stoichiometric ratios determine the class of the foam: integral foam, soft foam, semi-rigid foam, hard foam, energy-absorbing foam or fire-retardant foam. These foams are described in more detail under Products.
  • each foam class can be precisely matched to each customer’s respective requirements: chemical resistant surfaces, acoustic requirements, weight reduction or a solution to geometric challenges are typical examples of customer needs.
  • The general shape of the component, the position of the sound source, the type and interface to other components all have a significant influence on the sound-absorbing and/or insulating effect. We can offer you solutions based on our expertise and extensive practical testing and/or use our experience to help you in an advisory capacity.
  • Customer-specific solutions such as the use of a sandwich technique, assembly techniques that prevent sound bridges or special geometries in a component, may not only cause a reduction in sound volume but can also support the design of a sound.
