Polyurethane Integral Foam is derived from the chemical reaction between polyol and isocyanate. The outer surface is building a skin which is integrated in the foamy core because of the special composition of the reaction components.

The high mechanically and nearly closed celled skin is ca. 1-2 mm thick. The surface of the skin can be plain or structured depending on the surface of the tool. The foamy core always retains its cell structure.

The highly protective effect is one of the substantial characteristics. This is based on the stout-absorbing character of the foam core in combination with the durable, tough outer skin.
Subsequent covering of the moulded foam parts is omitted, because decorative surfaces arise as a result of transferring the tool structure to the outer skin of the foam part. Integral foam parts can also be equipped in sub ranges by special heat shields for highly stressed thermal areas.

Complex shapes, which are not obtainable using conventional procedures, often can be made without problems by integral foam. Additonally, carrier and fixations can be easily integrated. Coloration is also possible; this is achieved either by colouring the foam system itself or by subsequent painting of the surface.

These parts are used in the automotive industry. Soft Integral Foams are used for arm rests, head restraints, steering wheels and buttons, as well as for front and tail spoilers. Moulded foam parts from soft integral foam fulfil the high safety-relevant requirements of the automobile industry.

The chair furniture industry uses integral foam particularly for the manufacturing of arm rests, arm covers and chair crosses. In one step process assembly elements are integrated in the foam, as well as the skin of the part is formed. This can, for example, be provided with surface textures.

Soft and semi rigid integral foams are mainly used for impact and temperature-protected parts.
